assisting those at union university

Dr. Andy Chambers, the Dean of Students at Missouri Baptist University and a good friend, sent this e-mail to the entire faculty, administration, and student body about an hour ago…

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

I asked my counterpart at Union, Kimberly Thornbury, if we could assist in any way. She said they were ok on manpower for clean up, but gift cards would help. Hundreds of resident students lost most or all of their personal items and need to replace many things. Here are some of the stores in Jackson, TN: Best Buy, Dollar General, Family Dollar Store, Hobby Lobby, Home Depot, JC Penney, Kmart, Kohl’s, Kroger Foods, Office Depot, Sam’s, Sears, Target, Walgreen’s, Wal Mart Super Center. If you are shopping this weekend at one of these stores and would like to pick up a few gift cards for the Union students, you can bring them to Jonathan White or Krista Huse in the Student Development office, and we will overnight them to Union.

Thank you to the many of you who have asked how you can be of help. I think this will give immediate relief to students trying to put their lives back together so they can finish the spring semester.

Thanks, Andy Chambers

P.S. In Chapel next Thursday we will be taking up an special offering to go to the official Union Relief Fund. If you desire to receive a receipt of your gift for tax purposes, you can give it directly through their website at http://www.uu.edu/Union2010/giving/creditcard.cfm.

Again, there is a sort of kinship with a place like Union because of the similarities between us at MBU and them. SBC school, private, liberal arts, relatively small. My family is leaving right now to get a few gift cards for those in need. This is a great time to be the hands and feet of Christ to those on that campus.

If you are interested in helping, you may want to contribute to the aforementioned Union Relief Fund – listed in the P.S. of Dr. Chambers e-mail. Also, you can bring any gift cards by my house and I can take them up to the school next week or you take them to MBU personally. They need to go the Student Development offices. Much thanks!

I’m really glad you posted this because IT keeps deleting all my emails on my mobap account. It’s driving me crazy.

[...] I remembered three tragedies that hit close to “home”: one in my hometown, one in the town I live in now, and one that affected a sister Christian university. [...]
