Seems we have a broad representation of white Protestant, American, middle-age males at missionSHIFT. Let us seek to have a Christ Community that represents every nation, every tongue (an international array), male and female (all genders), Jew and Greek (all ethnicity & races) Slave and Free (all classes), Eunuchs and other sexual minorities. How lovely it will be if the framers and the speakers more widely represented the diversity of the Christ Community.

I know, lost alot of indie cred there. Believe me, I tried to like it - and I so desire to be a part of the Avett Bros. mancrush club...
I'm sure the Avett Brothers are like a fine wine that one day I will appreciate on my musical pallette...

thinking of the quote from drew goodmanson about new churches being freer to do things in different ways. i recently had an opportunity to speak at a church that was doing just that. a traditional baptist church (read formal attire, hymnals, choirs, etc) in the central philippines recently decided to reach a crowd that would never darken their doors.
they rented facilities on sunday mornings to try and reach this new crowd. i overheard a discussion with some newcomers. "what religion is this church?" "we are non-sectarian"!!! wow, what a new concept for them. but it is working. they are full on sundays and are willing to embrace new forms of church membership and commitment. something that would have been impossible if the church had decided to change what it normally did on a sunday.
very exciting! shows me that there is hope for the future of missionality -- even among churches that wouldn't normally be seen as missional.
great post, brad

I agree about the use of technology and, perhaps more importantly, the ethos behind our technological obsession.
In a very real way, the faith in technology as a force of good and in the ideal of the individual coupled with a modernistic cultural relativism has de-powered the missional mindset.
I look forward to the post seriesm Bad.
